All 10 IPL Teams — History, Captains, Squads & Titles
Ten franchises, one trophy. From the original eight clubs of 2008 to the newest arrivals of 2022, this is the complete guide to every IPL team: who leads them, where they play, who owns them, and what they have won.
Chennai Super Kings
The most consistent franchise in IPL history. Under MS Dhoni, CSK reached the playoffs in almost every season they played and built a fan base known as the "Yellow Army". Ruturaj Gaikwad now leads the side, with Stephen Fleming — coach since the beginning — still in charge.
Mumbai Indians
The joint-most successful team in IPL history. Mumbai Indians turned slow starts into a trademark, winning five titles between 2013 and 2020, and their scouting system has produced stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya leads the side at the Wankhede.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
The defending champions — and the story of the decade. After 17 seasons without a title, RCB finally lifted the trophy in 2025, then defended it in 2026 by beating Gujarat Titans in the final. Virat Kohli remains the heartbeat of the side, and the Chinnaswamy is the loudest ground in the league.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Bollywood glamour meets one of the most passionate crowds in cricket. Owned by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, KKR won titles under Gautam Gambhir in 2012 and 2014, then again in 2024. Eden Gardens, the largest cricket stadium in India, is their fortress.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Born in 2013 after replacing the Deccan Chargers, SRH quickly built a reputation for world-class bowling attacks. They won their only title in 2016, and in 2024 they rewrote the record books — including the highest team total in IPL history, 287 for 3 against RCB.
Delhi Capitals
Originally the Delhi Daredevils, the franchise rebranded as Delhi Capitals in 2019 and reached its first final in 2020. Still chasing a first title, Delhi have built around Indian talent — with Axar Patel leading the side and a strong core of young players.
Punjab Kings
Formerly Kings XI Punjab, renamed Punjab Kings in 2021. Their best season came in 2014, when they reached the final, and they were runners-up again in 2025. Under Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting, Punjab are rebuilding around fearless batting and a new home in Mullanpur.
Rajasthan Royals
The first-ever IPL champions. Written off before a ball was bowled in 2008, Shane Warne's young Rajasthan side won the inaugural season and defined the Royals' identity: spotting unknown talent early. Riyan Parag now captains the pink city franchise.
Gujarat Titans
The most successful new franchise in IPL history. Gujarat Titans won the title in their debut season in 2022, reached the final again in 2023, and were runners-up in 2026. Playing at the world's largest cricket stadium, they are built on discipline, led by Shubman Gill and coached by Ashish Nehra.
Lucknow Super Giants
One of two franchises added in 2022, Lucknow reached the playoffs in each of their first two seasons — a rare feat for a new team. Owned by the RPSG Group and led by Rishabh Pant, the Super Giants play at the Ekana Stadium and are still hunting a first title.
