IPL 2027 Match Timings and Double-Headers
Most IPL 2027 matches start at 7:30 PM IST, the prime-time evening slot. On double-header days — usually Saturdays and Sundays — there is also an afternoon match at 3:30 PM IST, so fans get two matches in one day. The expected list shows 12 afternoon matches, each paired with an evening match on the same day, from the DC vs MI clash on 20 March to the final league weekend on 9 May. Evening matches under lights draw the biggest crowds and the biggest television audiences, and all four playoff matches and the final start at 7:30 PM IST. If rain interrupts a match, the DLS method can revise the target, and if no result is possible, both teams take 1 point each — a point that has decided playoff races before, as Punjab Kings found in 2026 when 15 points proved one short.
How IPL 2027 Matches Work: Format, Points and Results
League stage — 70 matches: All 10 teams play 14 matches each. A win gives 2 points, a no-result gives 1 point each, and a loss gives 0. When teams finish level on points, net run rate (NRR) decides the order. The full standings system is explained in our IPL points table 2027 all teams guide.
Playoffs — 4 matches: Only the top 4 teams qualify. First plays second in Qualifier 1, with the winner going straight to the final. Third plays fourth in the Eliminator, with the loser going out. The Eliminator winner plays the Qualifier 1 loser in Qualifier 2 for the second final spot.
Results during the season: Every result will update the IPL points table automatically, and every match card will be covered in our IPL 2027 scorecard guide. For each day’s game, see our today’s IPL match preview and our IPL live score guide.
Before the season: The reported IPL 2027 auction on 16 December 2026 in Goa, with retention lists due on 15 November 2026, will decide the squads for all 74 matches. Read our IPL 2027 auction guide, and see every squad on the IPL teams page.
